Fade Digital wrote this guide and is one of the eight agencies in it. We applied the same criteria to ourselves as to everyone else, and the list is alphabetical, not ranked. Nobody paid to be included and no agency was asked to approve its entry. Where a fact could not be checked against a public source, we left it out.

The short answer
Eight agencies based in Toronto and the GTA currently publish a dedicated generative engine optimization (GEO) or AI search service: blackDot.ca, Digital 6ix, Digital Estate Media, dNOVO Group, Fade Digital, Qode Media, Search Engine People and TechWyse. They differ mainly in who they serve, whether they publish pricing, and whether GEO is the core practice or an addition to a wider SEO or web business. The entries below give you the sourced facts on each, then the questions worth asking before you sign anything.
How we chose
Every agency in this list had to pass the same seven checks. Agencies that passed are listed alphabetically. We did not rank them, and we do not think a ranking would be honest without running the same brief through all eight.
- A dedicated GEO or AI search service page. Not a paragraph added to an SEO page or a mention in a blog post. A page that describes the service and what it includes.
- A Toronto or GTA base we could verify. A claimed Google Business Profile with a Toronto or GTA address as the agency's own location, not a city page or a satellite office run from a head office elsewhere.
- At least one independent listing. A Clutch profile, a directory such as Digital Agency Network or Semrush's agency directory, or a press release.
- Public case studies or a portfolio on the agency's own site.
- A clear statement of who the agency serves, so the "Best for" line could be written from the agency's own words rather than ours.
- Facts we could source. Anything we could not confirm from a public page was left out, including founding years where two sources disagreed.
- No pay to play. Nobody paid to be included, and no agency was contacted for input.
We checked each agency's own service pages, its Google Business Profile, its Clutch profile where one exists, and three third-party lists: Digital Agency Network's Toronto GEO page, Semrush's directory of AI search optimization agencies in Toronto and Digital Estate Media's own Toronto shortlist. Several agencies that appear on those lists were left out because we could not find a dedicated GEO service page, or because their head office is outside the GTA. Review counts and star ratings change weekly, so we have not quoted them.

How to choose between them
Most agencies in this list also sell SEO, web design or paid media, so the useful question is not "who does GEO" but "what does GEO change in the work I would be paying for". These questions get at that. They apply to us as much as to anyone else on the list.
- Which AI engines do you measure, and can I see a sample report? ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews behave differently. An agency that measures only one of them, or none, cannot tell you whether the work is landing.
- What are the GEO deliverables, as a list? Ask what changes on your site, in your listings and in your third-party mentions. "AI optimization" with no list is a label, not a service.
- How is this different from the SEO I may already be paying for? A good answer names the extra work: entity consistency across directories, structured data, AI crawler access, and citable third-party sources. A weak answer is "it is included".
- What does the first 90 days look like, and what do you expect to change in that window? Listings and schema can be fixed in weeks. Citations in AI answers take longer, and the agency should say so.
- Which office and which people would run my account? Some agencies here have more than one office. It is a fair question, not an insult.
- What is the minimum term, and what does leaving look like? Ask who keeps the content, the accounts and the data.
- Can you show your own AI visibility? Ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude for a GEO agency in Toronto and see whether the agency you are speaking to appears. It is not a perfect test, but an agency that cannot get itself cited has a harder case to make.
Red flags worth walking away from, whoever raises them:
- Promising AI citations within 30 days. Engines refresh their view of a business on their own schedules. Nobody controls that timeline.
- No way to measure AI visibility. If the monthly report is Google rankings with a new heading, it is an SEO report.
- Long lock-ins with no checkpoint. A 12-month term with no review point after the first quarter is a lot to ask for a discipline this new.
- Guaranteed placements. No agency can guarantee what ChatGPT or Gemini will say.
- Vague deliverables. If the proposal cannot list what changes and where, the price is for a promise, not a program.
For the background on why this matters, our State of AI Search 2026 report covers how AI answers are changing local search, and Learn has plain-English definitions of the terms agencies use.

Frequently asked questions
How much does GEO cost in Toronto? Seven of the eight agencies in this list do not publish prices, so for most of them you will need to ask. The one published price point in the list is ours: a free AI Visibility Scan, a $499 AI Visibility Audit, and programs from $2,850 per month, all on our pricing page. Treat that as one data point rather than a market rate, and compare quotes on the deliverables list, not the headline number.
What is the difference between a GEO agency and an SEO agency? A search engine optimization agency works to rank your pages in Google results. A generative engine optimization agency works to get your business named and cited in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. The two overlap, because AI engines draw on many of the same signals, but GEO adds entity consistency across directories, structured data, AI crawler access and third-party corroboration. Most agencies in this list offer both. Our explainer on SEO, AEO and GEO covers the differences in more depth.
How long does GEO take to show results? Expect months rather than weeks. Listing corrections and schema can be done quickly, but AI engines pick up changes on their own schedules, and third-party mentions take time to earn. Any agency promising citations in 30 days is promising something it does not control. Our AI visibility tracking playbook explains how to measure progress monthly so you can see movement before the leads arrive.
Does it matter whether the agency is in Toronto? For the technical work, no. Schema, listings and content can be handled from anywhere. It matters for local knowledge: which directories and review platforms carry weight in the GTA, which neighbourhoods and suburbs deserve their own pages, and how local competitors describe themselves. Every agency in this list is based in Toronto or the GTA, because that was one of the selection criteria. Agencies that serve Toronto from a head office elsewhere were left out, whatever their other merits.
How do I check whether AI engines already cite my business? Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude the questions your customers would ask, such as "best [service] in [neighbourhood]", and note whether you are named and which sources the answer cites. Repeat monthly with the same prompts. Our free AI Visibility Scan automates that check across three engines, and the tracking playbook walks through the manual version. The glossary in Learn defines the terms you will see in agency proposals.
Should I hire a GEO specialist or add GEO to my current SEO retainer? It depends on whether your current agency can show AI visibility measurement. If it can show engine-by-engine citation data for real buyer prompts, adding GEO to the existing retainer avoids a second vendor. If its reporting is Google rankings only, a specialist is worth a conversation. Either way, get the deliverables list in writing before you decide.
